Extras to Pack in Your Gym Bag

22/8/2024

Being well-prepared starts with packing the right essentials in your gym bag. You never know what might come up during a class, so it’s important to have the tools you need to stay on top of things. Here's what to add to your gym bag to ensure you're ready for anything.
1. Water Bottle

Hydration is crucial, not just for your riders but also for you. Bring a large reusable water bottle to keep yourself hydrated during class. It's also a good idea to pack an extra bottle for any rider who may have forgotten theirs - this small gesture goes a long way in building rapport.
2. Shoes!

We bang on about it a lot, but cycling shoes give you better control and stability on the bike, they help you cycle more efficiently – and if you’re delivering a number of sessions, they’re far more comfortable than trainers and toe cages.
3. Energy boost
Teaching back-to-back classes can be physically demanding, so if you’re doing a double (or a triple) it's smart to pack a quick snack like an energy bar, some nuts, or a banana. This will keep your energy levels up and ensure you're in top form for every session.
4. Tech stuff
Technology issues can pop up when you least expect them (maybe expect them, and then they won’t!) Be prepared by packing:
  • Spare mic windshields to keep your microphone clear and hygienic.
  • Battery pack and lead to charge your phone on the go.
  • Backup CD in case your usual playlist system fails—this could save you having to sing!
  • Notebook to report any issues with bikes after class.
  • Cadence meter in case you’re instructing at a studio that has bikes with no cadence, you can attach this to the crankarm, and connect it to the Intelligent Cycling app via Bluetooth and off you go. This will help ensure that you’re pedalling in the zone, and you can get riders to follow your cadence and then everyone’s safe.
Keep these essentials in your gym bag and you’ll be ready to handle any situation that comes your way during a class. The more prepared you are, the smoother and more enjoyable your sessions will be for both you and your riders.
