Show where you are now
Your original instructor certificate records training you completed. Professional recognition can say something different: where you are in your development as an indoor cycling instructor today.
An instructor certificate records the training and assessment completed at a particular point in time.
Current professional status can show what has happened since: continued development, experience, membership, Code commitment and other current information.
Certificate, membership and recognition
Each gives a different part of the professional picture.
Your instructor certificate
Records training and assessment you successfully completed. It remains a record of that achievement.
ICI membership
An annual relationship with ICI, giving access to current membership benefits. Membership is separate from the training shown on your certificate.
Professional recognition
Provides a way of recognising continued learning, experience and professional development beyond initial instructor training.
Your certificate records an achievement
If you successfully completed ICI instructor training, that achievement remains part of your training record.
What your certificate tells someone
Professional recognition is not limited to ICI-trained instructors
Instructors who completed their initial training elsewhere can still build a current ICI professional record.
The register shows further instructor development.
Where relevant, an instructor record can show ICI CPD, professional recognition, membership and a current commitment to the ICI Code of Professional Conduct, even if their original instructor training was completed elsewhere.
ICI Members can submit non-ICI training for CPD points and inclusion on their live record.
Recognition that can develop with you
The ICI instructor development pathway gives instructors a structured way to demonstrate progression beyond initial training.
Look beyond the date on a certificate
Two instructors can hold the same original certificate and have very different professional histories.
One may have instructed regularly, completed further development and continued building their knowledge. Another may have completed their original training and done very little since.
Looking at training history alongside current development and professional information gives a more useful picture of the instructor today.
Verify ICI professional information
Use the ICI Instructor Register to check the professional information currently shown for an instructor.
Useful to know
Your certificate remains a record of the training and assessment you successfully completed.
No. Membership, completed training and professional recognition describe different things.
Because an original certificate alone cannot show the experience and professional development that followed it.
The ICI instructor development pathway explains how the grading structure works.
Current professional information can be checked through the ICI Instructor Register.
